Sunday School Academic Year Inaugurated with Theme from Gospel of Luke

News

The Sunday School academic year was inaugurated on June 1 across parishes under the theme “Go and do likewise” (Luke 10:37). This year’s catechetical journey is uniquely marked by the Ruby Jubilee of the Thamarassery Diocese, the Centenary of Malabar migration, and the Jubilee Year announced by Pope Francis.

In a special video message, Bishop Mar Remigiose Inchananiyil emphasized that for catechism to be truly fruitful, parents and teachers must work alongside the children with equal dedication. He described catechism as a formative process aimed at shaping children into hope-filled, God-loving individuals who avoid sin and serve the Church with wholehearted commitment. He urged all involved to help children keep their focus on Jesus.

At St. Mary’s Sunday School, Payyanad, the new academic year was officially inaugurated by Fr. John Pallikkavayalil, Director of the Diocesan Catechism Department. During the ceremony, a detailed action plan prepared by the school to strengthen catechetical activities was released.

As part of the inauguration, ten new students were officially welcomed into the Sunday School through an entry ceremony. The event also honored Omana Kunnel, a long-time contributor in the field of faith formation, for her dedicated service.

The new academic year begins with renewed enthusiasm and spiritual focus, highlighting the importance of faith formation in nurturing a Christ-centered generation.
