St. Thomas Academy for Research and Training (START), Kottooli, marked the inauguration of its 21st Academic Year (2026–2027) with a colourful and inspiring ceremony held on Monday afternoon. The programme was inaugurated by His Excellency Mar Remigiose Inchananiyil, Bishop of Thamarassery Diocese and Patron of START, who also lit the ceremonial lamp and delivered the inaugural address.

The function began with a prayer and a cultural dance performance, followed by a welcome address by Rev. Dr. Subin Kizhakkeveettil, Director of START. In his address, he welcomed the dignitaries, students, parents and well-wishers, and highlighted START’s mission of providing holistic education rooted in academic excellence and Christian values.

Addressing the gathering, Bishop Mar Remigiose emphasized the importance of value-based education, discipline and character formation in shaping responsible citizens. He encouraged students to pursue academic excellence while nurturing compassion, integrity and social commitment.

Felicitations were offered by Rev. Fr. Simon Kizhakkekunnel, Forane Vicar, Mrs. Vineetha Sajeev, Councillor of Ward 13, Kozhikode Municipal Corporation. Students and alumni shared their experiences of START as a centre for holistic development, academic growth, discipline and personal transformation through a series of inspiring presentations. The START Choir also presented a group song.

A major highlight of the function was the celebration of START’s historic milestones. The institution honoured the achievements of its first Plus Two batch, which secured a 100% pass rate, and felicitated the successful students. Awards including the Dedicated Educator Award and the Best Football Player Award were presented by the Bishop.

The occasion also witnessed the launch of START Teen Connect, a new outreach initiative aimed at providing training programmes for school and college students as well as parents. The initiative was announced by Rev. Fr. Jyothis Cherusseril, Secretary of START.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Ann Maria Vinoy, followed by the Bishop’s blessing. A high tea hosted by the institution brought the inaugural celebrations to a close.
