The Community Empowerment Year celebrations of the Diocese of Thamarassery were formally inaugurated under the leadership of the Catholic Congress, with the collaboration of various diocesan organizations. The inauguration was held on January 2 at the premises of St. Sebastian’s Church, Koodaranhi.
Catholic Congress Global President Mr. Rajeev Kochuparambil inaugurated the Community Empowerment Year 2026. Dr. Kurias Kumbalakkuzhy delivered the keynote address. Presiding over the ceremony, Bishop Mar Remigiose Inchananiyil called upon the community to awaken, unite, and work together with conviction and awareness for the empowerment and upliftment of society.
Catholic Congress Diocesan President Dr. Chacko Kalamparambil welcomed the gathering, and Pastoral Council Secretary Mr. Benny Lukose proposed the vote of thanks. Leaders representing various organizations also addressed the assembly.
Cultural performances included Margamkali by 125 members of Mathruvedi, Chavittu Natakam by KCYMSMYM, Parichamuttukali, and other traditional art forms. Diocesan Vicar General Monsignor Abraham Vayalil, Chancellor Fr. Sebastian Kavalakatt, Diocesan Director of the Community Empowerment Year Fr. Sabin Thoomullil, Parish Priest of St. Sebastian’s Church Koodaranhi Fr. Sebastian Purayidathil, Prof. Chacko Kalampurampil, Dr. Trees Liz Sebastian, Swapna Girish, and several officials coordinated and led the programme.
The Community Empowerment Year has been envisioned to strengthen the unity, identity, and self-esteem of the Nazrani community. Organizers announced that year-long programmes and initiatives will be conducted across parishes of the diocese as part of the observance.
